METAPHORS AND SIMILES IN CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN PROSE

The article presents a survey of the metaphor- and simile-related researches in modern linguistics considers stylistic functions metaphors similes contemporary fiction. It is based on novel Goldfinch (2013) written by American writer D. Tartt, winner Pulitzer Prize for Fiction (2014). proves that tropes question used book are unique striking. They perform figurative descriptive functions, contribute to expressiveness emotiveness text, help convey characters’ psychological frame mind produce dramatic effect.
